Why most ND founders think they cannot afford £1,500/month (and why they are already spending it)

An honest look at why £1,500 a month for content support feels out of reach for most ND founders. And why the real cost is already being paid in time, stress, and missed opportunities. No hustle-shaming, no ROI promises, just the maths.

Why most ND founders think they cannot afford £1,500/month (and why they are already spending it)

When I say £1,500 a month for the Mixed Edit, most ND founders I speak to hear "luxury."

I hear "the cost of trying to edit it yourself at 11 pm when you are already overstimulated and overwhelmed."

We have been trained to treat outsourcing as a reward for success. Something you earn once you are 'there.' But 'there' is a moving target, and in the meantime you are paying for visibility in a currency nobody talks about: capacity and energy.

Let me map the invisible spend for you.

The hour you spend staring at a blank editing timeline because you cannot figure out where to cut.

The Wednesday you meant to post, but something inside said NO, so you didn't push the button.

The Friday you spend recovering from the shame spiral of not having posted.

The Tuesday you finally get around to pressing that button, but you are so fried from everything else that the video comes out flat, and now you are ashamed of that too.

The Sunday you spend "just thinking about content" because your to-edit list is a brick you keep avoiding, while also doing the bookkeeping you forgot to do earlier in the week.

That's not a content problem. That is a resource leak, and it is expensive.

£1,500 is not the expensive option. It is the option that costs money rather than your spoons.

The Mixed Edit gives you 2 long-form videos and 8 short-form clips per month, edited with proper story structure, pacing, and captions. Short-form is formatted for Instagram Reels, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts, whereas long-form is for YouTube. Chapter markers and thumbnail concepts included. Two rounds of revisions per video. Async only. No meetings. No 'quick calls.' Just footage in, finished content out.

Yes, you can get someone cheaper. But cheaper usually means explaining your brand to a new person every time, managing revisions that miss the point, and chasing delivery deadlines that slide because they do not know what "I need this by Wednesday" means to your nervous system.

"But I tried outsourcing before, and it was worse than doing it myself."

That's because the workflow was designed for them, not for you. Most editing setups require you to manage the manager: brief them, chase them, fix what they misunderstood, carry the guilt of asking for changes. This is built to remove you from the management loop, not add another loop to your brain.

"But I don't even have enough content to give you."

You do not need a backlog. I work with what you have, when you have it. One walk-and-talk. One rant in your car. One recorded client call. That is the raw footage. The rest is my job.

You are not buying edited clips. You are buying back the headspace you currently spend dreading content, avoiding it, recovering from not making content, and panicking because the footage exists but the finished video does not.

£1,500 buys back roughly 20-30 hours of editing work per month. But more importantly, it buys back the cognitive load you were never going to reclaim on your own.

That is not a luxury. That's infrastructure.

"But I don't know how to brief an editor without spending hours on it."

You do not need a massive creative brief. That is the whole point of the retainer.

I built this workflow because I cannot handle the context switching of editing content while running a business. The structure IS the brief. You send the footage. I handle the pacing, story structure, captions, and hooks. Two rounds of revisions mean you stay in control without having to manage the process. You are not paying for a workflow you have to steer. You are paying for finished videos that sound like you, delivered without you ever having to open an editing programme.

What if £1,500 is genuinely not in your numbers right now?

I am not going to hustle-shame you. I've been there, and I know what it's like to look at a price tag and feel it in your throat.

But I am going to ask you to look at what you are already spending. In time, stress, missed opportunities, and the slow leak of confidence every time you show up inconsistently because your brain is doing ten jobs (did you get that bookkeeping done?).

Sometimes the maths change when you count the hidden costs.

Sometimes the thing that looks expensive is the only thing that lets you stop paying in a currency you are running out of.
